14 illegal immigrants have been arrested in connection with the fire at Napier Barracks.

The illegal immigrants who were ‘temporarily’ being housed at Napier Barracks were detained on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st January 2021 as part of Kent Police’s investigation into the incident on Friday 29th January. They have been taken into custody as enquiries continue.

On Friday 29th illegal immigrants set fire to one of the living quarters at Napier Barracks. They also caused thousands of pounds worth of criminal damage. The residents of Napier Barracks also threatened staff and were very violent.

One of these suspects, 31-year-old Mohammed Ali, has been charged with assault by beating, using or threatening unlawful violence and criminal damage. He has been remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 1st February.

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the incident, however a significant amount of damage was caused to the site following a fire, which is believed to have been started deliberately.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/15490/21.

Some of the illegal immigrants who were housed at Napier Barracks are now ‘temporarily’ living at the OYO Stade Court Hotel, Hythe. They were taken by taxi late in the evening.
