36 illegal immigrants crossed the Channel from France at the early hours of this morning. They arrived in two small boats (dinghies).
These crossings still continue to happen despite announcing that all travel corridors will be closed on Monday. The illegal immigrants were picked up mid Channel by a Border Force and ferried to Dover.
The Home Office claim that the French authorities prevented another 27 from completing the crossing. They was taken back to Dunkirk.
The UK currently has over 60,000 waiting for asylum claims to be processed. They are being accommodated in various hotels and barracks throughout the UK.
Last year it was roughly 8,500 people who illegally crossed the Channel by small boats. In 2019 it was just 1,850. The number of people choosing this route has grown drastically.
