Another Day Another Dinghy
Since yesterday morning 224 illegal immigrants have arrived on the Kent coast. Yesterday 145 arrived and today 79 have.
Yesterday the illegal arrivals began from around 6.30am. They were picked up mid Channel by the Border Force after being escorted into UK waters by the French Navy. Once ferried back to Dover the illegal immigrants were placed under arrest, before being processed and loaded onto coaches.
Whilst being processed the illegal immigrants are asked their names, age and nationality. They then have their fingerprints taken and are tested for Covid 19. The Border Force provide new clothing, blankets and footwear if needed.
145 arrived yesterday, 137 were adults and 8 were children. 6 coaches were used to transport the illegal immigrants to hotels.
Today 79 illegal immigrants arrived. The first boat arrived at 6am and then they continued up until lunchtime. The majority were ferried in by Border Force.
There was a beach landing in Dungeness in which 12 illegal immigrants arrived. They landed on the coast and were intercepted by locals before the Border Force eventually arrived. Once the Border Force arrived, the illegal immigrants were then taken away in immigration vans to be processed.
This year 1,403 illegal immigrants have arrived by boat. 783 have arrived in March.
Last year In 2020, 8,500 people arrived on small boats illegally – 74% were aged between 18-39, and 87% were male.
