It has been exposed by SteveLawsReport that the Home Office has been recklessly spending more taxpayers’ money on lavish “entertainment” for illegal immigrants held at the Manston processing facility.
A jaw-dropping £14,484.11 has been extravagantly spent on goods for ‘recreational’ purposes, and £1,565.95 of that was spent on video games & consoles, all while the public faces mounting financial challenges.
The information came to light after a long-delayed freedom of information request was finally responded to by the Home Office, and the details are nothing short of appalling. However, they have only given a cost breakdown for the money spent on games consoles, which equates to £1,565.95. That leaves just under £13,000 unexplained in the Freedom of Information request.
It won’t require much imagination to guess what it’s been spent on though, such as TVs, board games, toys, pool tables, and other entertainment products.
The Home Office shockingly purchased two Xbox consoles at a staggering cost of £241.99 each, totaling £483.98. But that’s not all – the reckless spending continued with the acquisition of not two, but three PS4 consoles at £279.00 each, leaving taxpayers with an astounding £837.00 bill.
To top it all off, three Nintendo Wii consoles were purchased at a cost of £49.99 each, amounting to a significant £149.97. It seems that the Home Office is treating the Manston facility like an entertainment centre rather than a place meant for temporary detainment.
But the extravagance didn’t stop there. The Home Office also squandered more money on video game titles, including six PS4 games at £45.00 each, accumulating to a wasteful £270.00. Additionally, six Nintendo Wii games were bought at a cost of £50.00 each, further adding to the needless expenditure with a total of £300.00.
The total sum spent on video and computer games alone stands at an appalling £1565.95 – a figure that could have been better utilised elsewhere.
Questions are being asked about how such extravagant purchases could be justified when many essential services are facing budget cuts.
This revelation serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for increased oversight and scrutiny over public spending. It is incumbent upon the authorities to ensure that taxpayers’ hard-earned money is directed towards meaningful and essential causes, rather than being squandered on luxurious items for illegal immigrants.
